Police in Horry County, South Carolina, said this week that they are searching for two missing emus that have been evading capture for months: "We are not emu-sed."

Reports of two large emus running riot in the city of Loris, in Horry County, SC, followed an incident last week when 43 monkeys escaped an Alpha Genesis facility in Beaufort County, SC, the Yemassee Police Department said.

( WMBF /Gray News) – More than a week after 43 monkeys escaped a South Carolina compound that breeds the primates for medical research, residents in the state are on the lookout for someone’s pet emus. Artie Morace, 71, said two of his three emus got loose during two incidents earlier this year in June.

Thelma and Louise are out on the town at the same time officials work to collect the 11 remaining escaped Alpha Genesis monkeys.

Artie Morace, the owner of the three emu birds of which two have escaped, said it was an accident and is not facing any charges.

The owner of the runaway birds warned residents of the area that they are feral and not trained. Law enforcement is currently with the owner to approve a tranquilizer to help bring the Emus home safet

The CEO of a South Carolina research facility where dozens of monkeys escaped said the employee connected to the incident has not returned to work. FEMA is opening a disaster recovery center in Jefferson County to provide one-on-one help for Georgians affected by Hurricane Helene.
