An E. coli outbreak connected to several recalled brands of bagged organic carrots has left one person dead and over a dozen hospitalized, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One of the eight people in Washington sickened with E. coli likely linked to organic carrots is a person from Franklin County, according to the Washington state Department of Health. Other cases were in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.

Organic whole and baby carrots sold at grocery store chains such as Trader Joe's, Wegmans, Whole Foods and Target may have been contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
