Police Scotland say 'serious disorder' has fallen across Scotland, with specialist resources deployed less than last year and injuries to emergency service staff reduced.

One officer, who was injured when a brick was thrown through the window of her vehicle in Edinburgh on Halloween, was hurt during the operation, which ran throughout October and November. During the same period in 2023, 62 officers were injured by fireworks and other projectiles.

Eyewitness reports came after police confirmed officers are executing stop and search orders in three Edinburgh communities on November 5 - Niddrie, Moredun and Gracemount.

Police will use stop and search powers in certain areas of Edinburgh in a bid to intercept planned disorder on Bonfire Night. The force warned those suspected of planning firework-related anti-social behaviour in the Gracemount, Moredun and Niddrie areas would be searched after receiving “intelligence” of potential trouble.
