Democrats’ best hope for power in Washington after Donald Trump won back the White House hinges on the outcome of a handful of fiercely competitive US House races.

After an election night collapse in both the presidential election and key Senate races, Democrats are looking to the House as their last hope. As it stands, the lower chamber is too close to call, though it’s leaning towards Republican control.

Republicans won control of the Senate in Tuesday’s elections, gaining seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Other tight races remained too close to call in both the House and the Senate, as Democrats were hoping to win a House majority as voters across the nation cast ballots.
