Digital Federal Credit Union and First Tech Federal Credit Union, among the largest in the country, originated from technology companies.

First Tech recently announced plans to close its only Portland branch, in the Lloyd District, citing a drop in walk-in customers and safety concerns. It’s expected to close on Nov. 15. In addition to Oregon, First Tech has branches in California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho and Massachusetts, according to its website.

Digital Federal Credit Union in Marlborough has announced its intent to merge with First Tech Federal Credit Union, a financial firm based in California’s Silicon Valley.

The largest credit union in Massachusetts said it plans to merge with the largest credit union in Silicon Valley, a deal that will create a nearly $30 billion lender with almost 2 million members.
