An E. coli outbreak connected to several recalled brands of bagged organic carrots has left one person dead and over a dozen hospitalized, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC has issued an urgent food safety alert about a major E. coli outbreak across 18 states linked to organic carrots.

In a Nov. 16 press release, Grimmway Farms issued a recall on organic whole carrots and organic baby carrots. Although the carrots should no longer be available for purchase in grocery stores, but they may still be in consumers' freezers and refrigerators, the company said.
