Nearly 3,000 U.S. students began the application process for the scholarship covering all expenses at the storied university in Oxford, England, to pursue graduate degrees beginning in October 2025. Two Iowa students were among the 32 ultimately chosen for the prestigious award.

Gandhi, who will pursue a a D.Phil. in oncology at Oxford, is one of 32 students selected for the scholarship from the United States this year.

The new class includes students from 20 different colleges and universities, including the first ever Rhodes Scholars from Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia and Pepperdine University, California.

The 57th student to be selected for the award from UVA – the most of any U.S. public research university – will study the universe’s origins.
