While some among the NBA media sphere may not be the greatest fans of player rankings, for better or worse, they have become an unavoidable part of league fandom and its media cycles. The Boston Celtics raised an 18th banner on Opening Night before facing off against the new-look New York Knicks. It was the first time since 2008 that the city got a Ring Night celebration to tip off the regular season.
