Texas public schools could use teachings from the Bible in lessons as an option for students from kindergarten through fifth grade under a proposal before the state board of education

Officials in Texas are set to vote Tuesday on a controversial new public school curriculum that incorporates Christian lessons from the Bible as early as kindergarten while putting less focus on other faiths.

School districts serving more than two million elementary school children would be able to adopt a curriculum that draws on the Bible.
